Can a regular report affect traffic calculations?

Post by krankyd
Hi guys,
During our meetup in Paris, we were asked a few times about the effect that a regular event (i.e. when you report traffic) has or does not have on traffic calculations.

So after checking and double-checking, we can verify that your report does affect traffic calculations. Traffic jams (color coded) will not be created based on your traffic report along, but combined with your driving speed - they will create a traffic jam on a specific segment faster than without the report.

Keep on reporting (safely)!

Based on what you have stated a manual traffic report helps the passive/automated system report traffic faster/easier.

I suspect that the manual reports alone don't affect routing. Is this correct?

This is my understanding.

I would assume that is correct. Traffic jams are triggered when your speed is below a certain percentage of the normal speed. Anything above that threshold is just considered normal fluctuation since everyone does not drive the same speed.

I wouldn't want to see a path penalized because my grandmother drove 45 in a 50 zone and no other Wazers have come by recently ;)
