Yes, Waze allows anonymous use. This has been well-discussed in several threads. Just search for 'anonymous' and there will be a few recent threads.

If you start up Waze and choose not to create an account, you are given a world_ or usa_ account name. It shows in the client. I didn't think it was a hidden secret.

This thread starts out by associating anonymous users with world_ accounts. I also mention usa_ users on the first page of the thread too, saying they are anonymous users. You mentioned this post from Eyal which states it. There are older threads, too, but I think those two threads alone make it pretty clear.

It may make sense to have a wiki page with this information, but I'm not sure which page is appropriate. It has client and map update implications.

Please please please. I'm getting 5-10 of these update requests a day.

It's relatively recently it's become prevalent. I'd hang fire on adding it to the wiki. I intend to propose to them in Paris to prevent unregistered (as opposed to just anonymous) users from anything other than passive use of the app!
