I found this limit on the google local search that should be a problem for Italian searches:

looking for a restaurant, google search answered with a place located in Str. St. 16.
This result is understandable for me, or other Italian people, because we can guess that is a "Strada Statale" ( a very common primary street in Italy), but it is useless for the "turn-by-turn" software.
In fact generally speaking we are naming this kind of roads as SS + "the number" and the software can not find places or addresses located in SS or Strada Statale considering that it is looking for a Str.St..
I think we can not manage this limit editing the maps with all potential names of the roads: we should risk to put 4 or 5 names for each road, perhaps missing some shortened forms.

So, how to manage that?

Thanks

I have found that when I try to find a restaurant without the address or something that is a ways away, it doesn't show up on the local search. I always end up going through google or even the regular iPhone maps to find the address then pasting it into waze. Would it be possible to link it with google so that you could search for anything and it would find it regardless of distance? Also, could you add a way to search for city centers. A lot of the time I end up just going to a place in the city to navigate there, whereas the city center would be easier. This one is just a nit-picky thing but just a thought.

Feedback, search problem

Postby toshikami » Mon Nov 07, 2011 1:43 am

I actually really like the search feature over say TomTom because you can just type the number and street name and it generally finds fairly quickly a few possibilities around you, but sometimes it just doesnt get it even when the street is on the map:

ex: today i wanted to go to 149 Lake Ave, Trumbull, CT, when i searched just "149 Lake Ave" and it found 2 adress with the right number and street but not on the right town ( off by like 20 miles), i tried writing the adress with "trumbull, ct" at the end and found a single address on yet another town farther away, so i used my other GPS and well "Lake Ave" was showing on the waze map just where it was supposed to be, same happened to " # Fairview rd, easton, ct".

If it was a map problem or a road missing I would have fixed them on the map editor, but on both instances the road was there, the search just wouldn't find it.

- Kami :: still think waze is the best gps though ;) keep up the good work guys :D
